Lack of analysis on the issue of assaults on Indians in Australia

The only cause of concern for Indians used to be sledging and bad umpiring when the cricket team visited Down Under. However the recent attacks on students and others of Indian origin in Australia seemingly for purposes of racial profiling deserves more coverage. There are a few articles on Chindu like how the police used force to break up a peaceful demonstration.
Apparently Amitabh Bachchan of all people took a stand by rejecting a honorary doctorate with some really powerful words,
I have been witnessing, with great dismay and shock the recent violent attacks on Indian students in Australia, on the electronic media the entire day...I mean no disrespect to the Institution that honours me, but under the present circumstances, where citizens of my own country are subjected to such acts of inhuman horror, my conscience does not permit me to accept this decoration from a country that perpetrates such indignity to my fellow countrymen.

So far Chindu has not taken a stance on this issue beyond providing the basic news coverage. I for one would like to see some action taken against the perpetrators of the crime. Given that globalization has its tentacles on most major countries, it is likely that the local population gets its jobs taken away by outsiders who work for lesser money(I'm simplifying the economics here). This is a phenomenon that has occurred from Mumbai to Melbourne. What do you think should be done(beyond improving the Law and Order situation)?

The victims all seem to be from Andhra or am I wrong?

Pilid,
I don't have the numbers but it looks like the majority are from the AP region. Do you think there's some rationale linking the state and the incidents?

Most of the students who have been attacked in US are also from Andhra. Christian Samuel Reddy ki jai ho!

Students from other states have also been attacked. Andhrites constitute the largest group by some margin. For the racists we are all just Bloody Indians.

RM,
I agree. That is the reason behind the title of this post being "Indians" instead of particular groups.
Even after 9/11 there were groups of Sikhs and Gujaratis who were significantly targeted due to their sheer numbers.
What I'm trying to bring out is a discussion between the readers of this blog and how we can help raise the awareness of this issue.

Australia has always had a history of racism. Remember how they treated aboriginals. When the Australian Missionary Graham Stains and his two lovely kids were killed in Orissa few years ago, Australia made a huge hue & cry. Now, it is time for them practice what they preach. As for chindu's reaction, remember, when a muslim doctor from Bengaluru(or was it a medical student?) was arrested in Australia few months ago, on suspicion of terrorist link, chindu made a huge mountain out of it. Compare it with its tame reporting now. The students who were victims of racist attacks so far have been Hindus. That once again prove our allegation that the chindu is concerned only with the Commies and Jehadis...

Sikhs were targeted post-9/11 owing to their headgear - many people in the US mistook them for Arabs owing to this.

Regarding these attacks in Australia, I do not know whether they are simply targeting all Indians for racial reasons or it is aimed at Andhraites in particular (are andhraities disproportionally represented in Australia?). Given the random nature of the attacks it does appear to be the former. In the past, I have heard anecdotally (though I do not know if this is true at all) that some of these folks who have been attacked had gotten involved with local women and the attacks may have had something to do with ensuing conflicts.

But you can't deny that majority of the Indians attacked in US/Aus are from Andhra....I wonder if there is more to this than we are seeing.

Chief is at his patronising best towards BJP, in his editorial today:

"The BJP would do well to reflect on its transformation from ruling-party-in-waiting to also-ran."

If the main opposition party (no. of MPs running into the triple digit and ruling party in major states) can be so easily be written-off as an "also ran", what about the "Left" (always written with an upper case L)? Particularly, how about an incisive analysis of the performance of the Desi-Chinese comrades in Chindu? Did they "run" at all?

We have seen atleast 2 editorials, 2 opinions and 1 news analysis on bjp'sperformance. but none on the left's so far. strange, isnt it.

Well, Chief's task has been made easier for him (and less embarassing also, given the highly "secular" nature of Chief). This is, at least, as far as Kerala goes.

We are given to understand that:

"Kerala Catholic Bishops' Conference, which openly campaigned for the Congress in the run-up to the elections, claims it is their victory."

Well... Friends...The new wiz kid of the Kasturi family, Ananth Krishnan, has been sent to China. Ram's masters there, would certainly teach him the virtues of Communism. Evidence is already pouring in. For the last few days his drool has been splashing all over the 'international news page'. Please see his story about the Tianenmen Square Massacre, white-washing the Commies. But the footnote betrays him. It says "names of certain persons have been changed" (to protect their identity). If the Commies have built such a paradise in China why the Idiot Krishnan bother to change names?

Whats this Tiananmen buzz all around! You wont see any of that on our newspaper. I can guarantee that much.
