A polite question...

...that Tom Friedman asks in his recent article, that also rebuffs the usual comeback 'Don't bring religion,'

“Whenever something like Fort Hood happens you say, ‘This is not Islam.’ I believe that. But you keep telling us what Islam isn’t. You need to tell us what it is and show us how its positive interpretations are being promoted in your schools and mosques. If this is not Islam, then why is it that a million Muslims will pour into the streets to protest Danish cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, but not one will take to the streets to protest Muslim suicide bombers who blow up other Muslims, real people, created in the image of God? You need to explain that to us — and to yourselves.”

Can we get an honest answer please? For yours sake--and ours.

Aside, Tunku Varadarajan has a regular feature on the Daily Beast now. If you missed the "chilling HBO documentary" on the Mumbai terrorists attacks from years gone by, this makes for a good recap. A salient observation that Tunku makes:
Each time Wasi calls his terrorists in Mumbai, however heated the moment, there is a punctilious, chilling adherence to Muslim norms of intercourse. The phone rings; the gunman answers: “Assalam-o-alaikum.” And Wasi says, cool as an Islamist cucumber: “Walaikumsalam.” Everyday Muslim courtesies must be followed, even as infidels are cut down.

On another issue... I have send this letter to the readers editor of The Hindu. I think it will be of interest to the readers of this blog.

Sir,

Please refer to the investigative stories by Sri. P. Sainath on the 'Paid News Coverage' by Marathi Media to Sri. Asok Chavan, Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Yes it is shocking. Yes it is outrageous. Yes it is unethical. But what moral right The Hindu has got to raise such a hue and cry over the issue? How can The Hindu adopt a 'holier than thou' attitude? The Hindu has been providing blatantly one-sided propaganda for the Muslim Fundamentalists, the CPM and for China, for the last so many years. Has the propaganda also been Paid News? Your synthetic outrage now over the 'Paid News' in Maharashtra reminds me of 'Vasavadatha's Sermon on Chastity'.

Yours faithfully

Krishna Kumar

Amen! Chief himself has made so many trips to China at the "invitation" of the Chinese govt. and invariably, all these visits are followed by glowing reports! Perhaps, even Xinhua would be embarassed to write such eulogies.

Besides, Chief has so willingly accepted an award (Lanka Ratna) from the SriLankan govt. which is a party to a serious, bloody ethnic conflict running into decades.

Very relevant point by Krishna, but you must understand that LiC's propaganda isn't paid, it's part of his ideology and fundamental belief. Do you think anyone is paying money to the holy warriors who wage Jihad? No. Ditto with Chief.

Thanks Kaushik for your comments. But please remember that the Islamic Jihad is being bankrolled by the fanatic, oil-rich shaikhs of Persian Gulf and rogue states like Pakistan and Iran.

Similarly, I have strong suspicions about The Hindu too. Please see that its readership is shrinking gradually. Yet, it braves on with its suicidal Muslim-CPM-China centred editorial policy, arrogantly alienating its traditional readership. Can you cite any other example from anywhere in the world of a newspaper deliberately trying to alienate its traditional constituency? So the owners of The Hindu must either be too idiotic to understand it or their losses are being compensated by somebody else.
