N.Ram finally writes on sexual abuse in Catholic church

N.Ram is a Christian by injection (both his first and current wife are christians). So it might have taken him a while to dispell his disbelief and write an editorial on child abuse in catholic church. Unlike his editorial on internet censorship in China, commonsense prevailed in this case and N.Ram did not try to defend the indefensible. Thank god for little mercies.

With the deadly maoist attack in Dantewada, I could sense Siddhardh Varadarajan and his wife "Prof" Nandini Sundar are beaming with joy. You are going to see very soon these guys coming out to call for disbanding Salwa Judum.

Ram and fellow secularists would be quite happy that secular India has equally contributed to the cause of very benevolent secularism:

"Priest Charged in U.S. Is Still Serving in India"

.........The priest, the Rev. Joseph Palanivel Jeyapaul, was working temporarily in the Diocese of Crookston, Minn., which like many United States dioceses is bringing in priests from India because there are not enough American priests to serve its parishes. Father Jeyapaul ministered to three parishes simultaneously in Crookston, where he was accused of misappropriating church funds as well as sexual abuse........

N Ram tiil now refrained from commenting on this issue may be not because of family connections, but perhaps more out of concern for any adverse impact on his secularist image. After all, he can not be seen writing anything against his pet minority folks. In fact, this editorial is of a very mild tone compared to his usual fierce tirade (even for trivial issues) against so-called Hindutva elements.

This matter has been raging in the US for nearly a decade and only now Chindu seems it worthy of comment. Millions of dollars have been paid by the catholic church, by way of settlement and in some instances a few US catholic churches have even reportedly gone bankrupt!

And there is no comment by Chindu on the anachronistic concept of the Vatican functioning as a separate state (and the Pope as its head) with full diplomatic relations accorded. And, Ram never fails to question and condemn the Dalai Lamaa functioning as a feudal lord.

Here is some more news on this topic:

"Richard Dawkins calls for arrest of Pope Benedict XVI"

RICHARD DAWKINS, the atheist campaigner, is planning a legal ambush to have the Pope arrested during his state visit to Britain "for crimes against humanity".

Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the atheist author, have asked human rights lawyers to produce a case for charging Pope Benedict XVI over his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic church.

The pair believe they can exploit the same legal principle used to arrest Augusto Pinochet, the late Chilean dictator, when he visited Britain in 1998.........

Benedict will be in Britain between September 16 and 19, visiting London, Glasgow and Coventry, where he will beatify Cardinal John Henry Newman, the 19th-century theologian.

Dawkins and Hitchens believe the Pope would be unable to claim diplomatic immunity from arrest because, although his tour is categorised as a state visit, he is not the head of a state recognised by the United Nations.....
