The catch phrase is "built over", quite innocuos sounding. That is, people (note the clever way of avoiding Hindu anywhere in the article) who had their temples or places of worship invited the Muslim invaders and handed over their temples so that mosques can be "built over" and everyone lived happily thereafter. Vive la secularism!
