Hanoi Roy would like the N-deal to fall through

Arundhati Roy is a good writer who had one good book 'The God of Small Things' which won a Booker prize and parlayed that into being a pseudo-intellectual favoring Left wing causes often without any rhyme or reason. Recently there were some students with obvious CPM roots who decided to launch a hunger protest against the N-deal simply because,
there was “no merit” in the agreement.
.
Running to their support was Ms. Roy who has been a vehement anti-US activist. When asked why she was against the N-deal, she said,
“Entering into an embrace with the United States is suicidal and we have the benefit of looking into its history with its allies.”

Well Ms. Roy could you please hand over your magic solution to the country's energy problems which you have in that napkin in your back pocket?
The students have every right as they should in a democratic nation to protest against their Government. However Chindu decides to see fit to publish an article simply because one of LiC's pet activists decided to make a pit stop to show support. In fact they even sent a special photographer to capture a snap with Ms. Roy bantering with the students.

Do remember this is the same person who compared the "Indian occupation of Kashmir" with the Pinochet regime and wanted the withdrawal of Army from Kashmir. Sure and while we are at it, Ms.Roy can we draw up a red carpet for all the terrorists to waltz in and bomb the heck out of our civilians?
I wonder what special favors LiC is getting to ensure that such windbags are given lines in the newspaper.

The families of two of India’s best-known authors, Arundhati Roy and Vikram Seth, have built cottages on land belonging to Vijay Singh Desh in Hoshangabad’s Pipariya district, 200 km from Bhopal.

Later, they also got a road constructed on another portion of the land with the result that the tribal was left with only that bit on which his house was standing.

“First, they constructed their houses on my land and then the road. When we pointed out that the place they were using for constructing their house and road was ours, they didn’t pay any attention because we are poor people,” said Vijay Singh’s wife Sukhdevi.

"Hers is a kind of infantile rebellion against the structure that houses her. Ms. Roy’s celebrated book, her lavish claim to fame, told us of “small things.” Now one marvels only at the smallness of her mind–and wishes, prays, that she would grow up. Just a teeny bit."

Shankar,
Thanks for the enlightening facts. The hypocrisy of these so called activists is revolting. While some of the facts might need further investigation, it is not unimaginable. Lets hope the law of the land wins, for once.

Anon,
Thanks for your link to the article.
The time he spent in Columbia university was really turbulent times in American society with the Left taking on the Right during the Vietnam war. Hence its not surprising to see him take one side over the other.
What was surprising was his stance towards the Nehruvian politics, especially his views on socialism.
Do keep providing similar links but add your insights as well.

"Covering my visits to China and Tibet in particular was also interesting." Of course, it got to be!

The whole thing sounds more like a monologue (interspersed with an occasional comment by the interviewer). And we are not done with it yet. We are advised to watch out for the second part!

It can happen only in India. One book is all she has written and sits on it's fame(?)......forever! It's best to ignore her rants.

What do I make of this?

LoC incident will help Pakistan rebut India’s charge

Nirupama Subramanian

ISLAMABAD: The intriguing incident in which four Pakistani soldiers were killed in an ambush by unidentified “miscreants” on the Pakistani side of the Line of Control last Thursday, will help Islamabad rebut Indian claims that the Pakistan Army, or elements in it, are once again assisting cross-LoC infiltration.

Anon #1,
Yup the arrogance of LiC equals his ignorance.

Anon #2,
Kissing upto MK is Chindu's new hobby. Giving coverage for MK and his sons has become a recurrent theme these days.

I've created a new post on that. Do check it out and let us know of your thoughts.

dirt digger.. and others.. Ms A Roy is not just activist and she doesnt have the need to go around doing things for the public. If you were able and intelligent enough to understand the bigger picture ,you would have been going around countries and across india doing something rather that posting a blog.!! I am not a supporter of any particular cause but would like to see all the things from a nuetral point of view and then deriving conclusion. So .. Ihope u will stop posting irresponsible blogs like this and deviate the poor peple of india fromt he truth,.. after a long time india has got a leader (intellectually),who can understand the cunning tactics of the US!!! I would suggest you to start reading Glimpses of World History by Jawaharlal Nehru and slowly once you get the picturre of th e past .you will certainly change your views on the current!!

The God of Small Things is the only novel written by Roy. She has since devoted herself solely to nonfiction and politics, publishing two more collections of essays, as well as working for social causes. She is a spokesperson of the anti-globalization/alter-globalization movement and a vehement critic of neo-imperialism and of the global policies of the United States. She also criticizes India's nuclear weapons policies and the approach to industrialization and rapid development as currently being practiced in India, including the Narmada Dam project and the power company Enron's activities in India.

Arundhati Roy was awarded the 1997 Booker Prize for her fiction The God of Small Things. The award carried a prize of about US $30,000[30] and a citation that noted: 'The book keeps all the promises that it makes.' [31]

In 2002, she won the Lannan Foundation's Cultural Freedom Award for her work "about civil societies that are adversely affected by the world’s most powerful governments and corporations" and "to celebrate her life and her ongoing work in the struggle for freedom, justice and cultural diversity."[32]

Roy was awarded the Sydney Peace Prize in May 2004 for her work in social campaigns and her advocacy of non-violence.

In January 2006 she was awarded the Sahitya Akademi award for her collection of essays on contemporary issues, The Algebra of Infinite Justice, but she declined to accept it[33].

People who dont understand the meaning of democracy and why the elites hate democracy are the ones who protest against humanitarian activists like this. I have not hatred towards you guys but would alsways suggest you to go through the speech of noam chmsky titles "why the elites hate democracy " and how the various tabloids and equivalent news channels are manipulating the news information that we get. everyhthing is monopolised and most of the news that we see is only what we are meant to se.. the news that has reallly happened in reality never reaches us. the time that you realise this ,youould understand why these activists are wasting there time that they could have used to squander their millions in parties ,in working among the masses..and enlightening them and giving hte wseaker section of india support.

we all know about arundirty roy. bugger off you jerk.

if you consider yourself literate, go read this stuff:
http://www.fisiusa.org/fisi_News_items/Godhra/godhra0146.htm

Arundhati Roy, for instance, presented a scroll charged with damnation against the Sangh parivar in Democracy: Who's She When She's at Home? (Outlook, May 6). We all know by now that her vivid account of how former Congress MP Iqbal Ehsan Jaffri and his family were killed was a piece of fiction. Roy had begun her charter of hate with another damning description: "Last night a friend from Baroda called. Weeping. It took her fifteen minutes to tell me what the matter was. It wasn't very complicated. Only that Sayeeda, a friend of hers, had been caught by a mob. Only that her stomach had been ripped open and stuffed with burning rags. Only that after she died, someone carved 'OM' on her forehead".

Shocked by this despicable "incident", I got in touch with the Gujarat government. The police investigations revealed that no such case, involving someone called Sayeeda, had been reported either in urban or rural Baroda. Subsequently, the police sought Roy's help to identify the victim and seek access to witnesses who could lead them to those guilty of this crime. But the police got no cooperation. Instead, Roy, through her lawyer, replied that the police had no power to issue summons. Why is she hedging behind technical excuses?

I wud be glad to check it with her :hindu fundamentalist".. coz I have attended several of her lectures and can contact her. so chill.. and as i told I m not a fan ..so i always like facts rather than favouritism..so i don go in favour of people or cast or religion.. all i believe is in fact..also.. from ur name i take the liberty to conclude on ur passion.. so let me say ,in the true send whatever our religions is we (indians)are all hindus.coz hinduism is a culture that developed in the indus valley civilisation (reference: "Discovery of India by Jawaharlal Nehru".. )
And I believe that God is in all human beings and we dont have the rights to discriminate between god`s creation.I belive that is what Krishna taught during the war in Bhagavat Gita.Coz arjun hwas hesitating to attack his own guru. and he remined him of his duties..and in todays world our duty is to help all and love all.. So be a true Hindu and love and help all despite being proud of calling urself hindu fundamentalist...
