Why is the Government silent after the Ahmedabad blasts?

The blasts in Bangalore which killed 2 people and injured several was followed by serial blasts in Ahmedabad, Gujarat which killed at least 8 and injured several others. The act was perpetrated by the 'Indian Mujahideen' or some group which claimed ownership with this statement,
We the Indian Mujahideen have carried out attacks and will continue to do so. Stop us if you can.

Some pics from the brutal attacks:

The impotent government of Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi pleads for peace while the perpetrators walk away free. Where is the accountability? Why is there no retaliation for these attacks? This impotence is going to cost our countrymen their lives while the so called principles of secularism have to be upheld. This is BULLSHIT.
When you cannot protect your people from attackers from the outside and inside you have lost the responsibility to rule. But the cowardly media will not question the government and the police about the lack of action. It is sad to see that our countrymen and women lack protection and freedom within their own country.
The police are being handicapped by the Government which does not provide the regulations, information and equipment to fight this war on terror.
A serving intelligence officer said in absence of laws like Prevention of Terrorism Act and Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (prevention) Act, terrorists who have built a formidable network within India do not have any fears.

Update from Chindu:
Both the PM and the President have appealed for peace.
The CPM went a bit further stating,
unfortunate that despite a series of such attacks, the government and the intelligence agencies are unable to crack down on those responsible for these heinous crimes.

Beyond the trite statements, the Union minister Shakeel Ahmed the braniac decided to put the ball in the Gujarat's state govt.'s court stating,
adding that the State government should have been more alert and alive to the potential threat.

Mr. Ahmed surely you don't expect the Government and police to search every cycle in a public area? How about providing the law and order mechanism some teeth?

The best way to respond to the blasts is to ignore. That does not mean guilty should not be punished. Govt and police should be on their job. Any out cry will make the terrorists happy and they will work with enthusiasm. Any reaction / retaliation begets further blasts.

Unfortunately the death toll has reached nearly 30. The time has come for some concrete and definitive retaliatory action (to begin with) and then proactive and preemtive strikes to prevent future attacks on innocent Indian citizens. Looks like the enemy is not far off. He is there lurking in every corner and every bus stop. The govt. has to identify the support structure that nurtures and enables these jihadi scums.

The pathetic Dilli sarkar which was busy till the other with horse trading now meekly says that they had tipped off the Karnataka govt. about an impending attack. How did the Delhi fellows come to know of the attack? Through whom? If they have reliable informers what prevents the govt. from launching some viable steps?

Let the readers of this forum come out with as many suggestions as possible and let the state govts. take the initiative to protect their subjects.

It is the sacred (the most minimum) duty of the govts. both at the state and Centre to offer protection and security to innocent and law abiding citizens to go about with their day to day activities.

Secularism, plurality, multiculturalism and all other BS courses are meaningless, unless the secular weallahs want to invite a civil war.

"Ahmedabad blasts: PM asks people to maintain communal harmony".

So cries the headline in the Indian Express. So, the very secular Congi netas have already sidetracked the issue. How many innocent citizens of Inida have to die to 'maintain communal harmony' and please the secular jholawallahs?

Anon #1,
Could you expound on your statement?
"The best way to respond to the blasts is to ignore. "

Dirt Digger said...

Anon #2,
The need for preemptive strikes is something this or any other central Govt. has loathed to do.
They will not tackle and block the financing of the madrassas and other so called educational/social organizations.
They have also handcuffed the police, army and RAW from taking any action. Its a sad state of affairs.

Dirt Digger said...

Anon #3,
You it the nail on the head.
"How many innocent citizens of Inida have to die to 'maintain communal harmony' and please the secular jholawallahs?"
The same secular a-holes will shout from the rooftops when some minority rights are oppressed, but where are they when terrorists attack?
Where is your Shabana Azmi or Arundati Roy, Teesta etc. when these happen?
Crickets are chirping.

"The best way to respond to the blasts is to ignore."

For how long? What do we ignore? That 30 people have died and so many others are injured? That, despite, a terrorist outfit (100% home made) claims the sole responsibility of blasts, our govt issues statements maintaining calm? The pussy psecular media which will now start broadcasting that "terrorists are unable to break the ""spirit"" of the cities"? The center blames states for inaction despite sending in "intelligence reports"? The blasts are taking f***ing life of people ?

Please tell this statement to the ones who have lost their near and dear ones.....I am sure they will "ignore" and move on!

"Govt and police should be on their job."
Well, sir(madam), the govt is NOT doing its job..hence the blasts! Is this so difficult to get through to your dumb head?

"Any reaction / retaliation begets further blasts."
You must be kidding! When have we, the people of India, police, politicians, intellectuals have reacted against blasts.....we react against some kids murder in noida, 20/20, bollywood star wars and other important news!

I am not sure you have understood the gravity of situation. Almost 30 blasts in span of two days is a clear indication of a WAR being waged against India!
God save us!

Comment in another forum giving some food for thought.

"Isn't BJP MPs that are threatening Amar Singh and Ahmed Patel with exposure in Cash-for-MP scam?"

Also, SP is known to be quite sympathetic to 'secular' organisations like the SIMI.

Oh, before we forget, lets light "candles" and express our solidarity with victims. Then we can go back to our movies/cricket/internet.

Anon,
I totally feel your anger towards this situation. A crime like murder can be punished by apprehending the suspects. However terrorism strikes innocent people without rationale.
It needs preemptive action.
I posed the same question to B.Raman Security expert and former Defense secretary. I'll post his reply, if I get one.

I'm an avid reader of this blog and have few things to say here on this news item - 1. There is no reason why this news item should figure in this blog. Knowing fully well the focus of this blog, this is quite unwarranted. Lets not make this blog a anti-xxx party and Pro-xxx party; 2. Coming to this terrorists attack, the author seems to be a sympathizer of a particular party and like them, blaming the central government. There is no point in blaming various Government if the law enforcement is in a pathetic situation in the country. While I agree that there has to be a ruthless dedication and enforcement to fight against terrorism, special laws alone will not and cannot prevent or reduce these terrorists act. The BJP to cover their inefficiencies would like to blame the congress Govt for its fault. It would be interesting to watch the action Mr Narendra Modi would be taking after this attack. However just by passing POTA or POTA like legislation (while I agree that there is a requirement for such a law in India) would not reduce such terrorist act. What is the use of all such laws if you have corrupt law enforcement agencies like Police department and legal department. The truth is everything and anything in the four pillars of the Governance has become corrupt to the core. Enacting 100's of legislation aiding law enforcement would be just piece of paper unless it is enforced upon ruthlessly by Police, Judiciary and the Government.

All these days Chindu has passively (if not actively) contributed to this kind of situation by talking about secularism, pluralism, human rights of the terrorists etc. Of course, Praveen Swami writes cleverly disguised articles on jihadi terrorism, but invariably ending with pleas for understanding the jihadi mindset, their alienation, frustration etc.

Not only Chindu but all its cheerleaders in the secular- leftist camp have a role to play and played their roles with disastrous consequences for the nation. Have we ever heard any of Chindu's top secular poster boys/girls expressing even a word of sympathy for the victims? From what we see in the photographs, in the latest incidents in Ahmedabad the victims are ordinary people, push cart vendors and their customers and by no means the much maligned middle class.

by the way, please do not visit the pmindia site. your ip address will be tracked and some gentle congressman in maharashtra or another congress ruled state will get you arrested for abuse. or they will track you down and get you fired from your job. you do not have freedom of speech. it may look like that, but when there is emergency-II and the cops and gentle congressmen come knocking, it wont be pretty. and freedom to life and liberty? f8ck it. you got to be morons of the highest order to believe in that crap.

like the first anon commment said, bear it. and if possible, grin and bear it. and in any case, vote for congress in the next elections. if there are elections. if they dont give you that trouble either, salute them and crawl.

Mouly,
Thanks for your comments.
This blog has focused on important current issues beyond the primary focus (i.e. Chindu) happening in India. There is no particular party favoritism or otherwise, if you would care to read posts by this and other authors on this blog.
I would like to take one statement you made,
There is no point in blaming various Government if the law enforcement is in a pathetic situation in the country.
Can you elect police officers? Can you elect the judges? However you can elect the politicians and pay for the media you read and watch.
The Central Government is ultimately accountable for the protection of the people.
Please do understand the concept of National Security and the government's accountability.
The Central Government has the ability to force change through the system. However the UPA government seems to think action against terrorism is akin to action against a particular community. Rather than focusing on the larger disease, it focuses on individual incidents without a plan to tackle it at a national and international level.

You hit the nail on the head, Chindu would want us to believe that these are a few misguided youth who need help and that the community is very open and advanced.
The Chindu and Indian media almost seem apologetic for these actions.
The TOI appears to have a better plan of action in its recent editorials,
The nation doesn't yet have a security culture, but it's now time to take some tough decisions. States will have to cooperate with each other and with the Centre. A federal police force, specially equipped to solve cross-state crimes like terrorism, drug and human trafficking, should be considered.
Readers should question the media for not asking the Politicians and Police about their accountability for National security.

Dirt Digger said...

Anon,
The question is not about the visit. It is about dialogue with your elected representative and leader of your government. What this blog and other blogs promote is that dialogue and request you discuss your concerns with your leaders.
The tone of the discussion should obviously be civil as these are people in power and have time considerations. But they will no doubt listen to people's concerns.
Stifling people's voices happens when people try to paint ridiculous pictures of their leaders.
Hope this helps.

Dirt_digger,

Thanks for your reply to my comments.
As regards National security and responsibility of the Government, I do understand their importance and how it works in India. You have missed the point I was making viz, whether it is UPA govt or NDA govt or any other govt whether state or central, POTA or NO POTA, nothing is going to change on the ground without a change in the fundamental issue- corruption and inefficiency. The Party heading the govt wouldnt want to address this issue because they themselves are corrupt and a corrupt bureaucracy and Judiciary suits them perfect. So enacting hundreds of laws wouldnt make any difference. The BJP's useless statement of re-enacting POTA is as lip service as the UPA's useless minority centric statements. Both these are addressed at vote bank and once in power, nothing will change and our police force will continue their fight against terrorism with their age old wooden guns in hand!! Expecting the corrupt politicians in India (who are ready to sell the country for money) to fight terrorism is too naive to say the least.

I had a quick look at the Chindu editorial today (didn't read in carefully, i must say). It appears that the Chief, this time, is not blaming Hindu organizations for provoking jihadis! No usual talk about jihadi mindset, their alienation, frustration etc! What does this mean ? Post-CPM-withdrawal, probably, Ram is more angry with the congress and hence want to blame everything on the union govt ? See surprising statements like:

"Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil has promised a ‘comprehensive plan’ to deal with the challenge — but did not spell out what action was contemplated nor why the Union Government has taken five years to decide it must have one."

What does this show ? I think this shows that our Chief is a mere puppet in the hands of of the CPM guys and writes as they wish. He has no scholarly opinion on any of these; he cooks up arguments to fit the political needs of his masters. now CPM finds congress as the enemy number one so the Chief starts blaming the union govt -- number one hypocrite, isn't he ?

Parveen Swamy is KINNG! Only he has solved the crimes and know the truths about who the real culprit are.

Mouly,
Thanks for your thoughts. I agree with you that parties have their narrow political agenda and axe to grind and important issues fall by the wayside. But how do you propose that National Security be addressed?
You say the police are fighting with antiquated technologies including WW2 rifles. Agree. How are funds allocated to the police?
You say that laws like POTA pay lip service, but with the lack of sophisticated equipment and ease with which suspects can escape prison with bail, how can the police hold anyone for questioning?
Our problem as Indians is that we have seen so much inefficiencies and corruption that our toleration levels are very high, as a result we do not hold our leaders accountable.
I would be more than happy to read your thoughts on the solution for this issue. Please enlighten us with your ideas.

Bhranthan,
Thanks for pointing out the arguments made by LiC in today's editorial. I'll take a look and add my thoughts. In the past Chindu would take the safe path of stating obvious solutions like increasing border security or proactive meetings with neighboring countries etc. Given that even Karat has taken a strong stance against terrorism, probably with elections coming in a few months, LiC has to follow suit.

How are funds allocated to Police?? When the funds are allocated to Politicians & bureaucracy's pocket, who cares if the police is fighting with WW2 rifles or WW1 rifles??
Let the police first work with the existing law's to apprehend the law breakers!!..Do you get any confidence with the Police force if you enter into a Police station? Certainly I dont.

Ok, cynicism apart, solution for the issue - I dont have any solution out of hand to enlighten the already enlightened readers of this blog. As they say, its a vicious circle which plagues India. In my opinion Democracy itself is unsuited for India. With the kind of democracy India is having this will continue as it is. There has to be an authoritative Governance at some point in time to bring peace and development. I would go with the model of China of the 1980's till now or the Singaporean or US model of Democracy (which in real terms are a Sham democracy). You need to have a strong willed leadership with a single minded focus and war like effort & efficiency and determination to root out terrorism, corruption and kick start the development. This leadership should have unhindered continuance in office (alas, this is where the democracy gets killed!) for atleast 30 yrs. Ofcourse, I know this is only a pipe dream and not going to happen in India.
Alternative, with the current setup and situation? Probably you need to go back a few years in history and take a look at Punjab, Assam and Tamilnadu. After 10 or more years of terrorism, after so many lives lost, there was a complete overhaul of the state police in Punjab (KPS Gill being the architect, not forgetting his predecessors who sowed its seeds) with the help of the Indian Army. Only then was it able to completely root out the terrorism (and note without any special aid like POTA). This was also made possible by Presidents rule and a continued strong willed support from Narasimha Rao (there was no Nehru family to poke and play politics in the state during the period). But this happened after almost 20 yrs of continual terror and killings. It took so many years and a break from Nehru family setup at the top to achieve this. So it could be the same thing again for current brand of terrorism. This is what will happen if you have a democracy for a country like India.

Assam to some extent can be taken as an example. Under Hiteshwar Saikia's chief ministership, he did achieve a good extent in rooting out ULFA but he may not have got the complete backing that was provided to Punjab. And the subsequent Mahanta's & their scoundrel colleagues have brought the state back to the situation where ULFA is active and powerful again!!

Tamilnadu - For whatever reasons, Jayalalitha had the guts and wherewithal to deal with LTTE and completely routed them out of the state (helped by Rajiv's assassination) and also deal strongly with goonda raj in Chennai. Surprisingly she was able to do this with the same corrupt and inefficient police force, (being herself most corrupt) with almost nil support from the Central government. But atleast she had one thing - She ran an authoritative leadership in her two tenure which fortunately turned towards anti-LTTE and anti-goondaism. With no one to question her, she was ruthless against LTTE and the goondaraj. But these are being squandered by our 'beloved' CM Karunanidhi. Do we have people with such authoritarianism in the current political scene?? I dont see any except Narendra Modi. Even he will not be able to do much without brute majority and continuance in office for long term.

I'm in the camp of those people who say, Democracy is not a solution for all. Democracy is only suited for where there is a high level of education in the society and higher level of quality of life. Even then at times there will be need for authoritarianism.

@Dirt Digger, and coming to your point that we do not hold our leadership accountable, can you explain how we can hold our leaders accountable???

Real terrorists are among the Indian polititians. They are playing dangerous game of religion-based politics. India needs effective and honest political leadership, same as Mr Musharraf in Pakistan for controlling the terrorists.
