Thank you DD. Eventhough I have always been intrigued about Falun Gong, I have never bothered to learn about earlier. So, your post prompted me to do some google search about it.

What is said & shown in FalunInfo.net could always be dismissed as propaganda. That is exactly what this page from the website of Chinese Embassy in India do.

http://big5.fmprc.gov.cn/gate/big5/in.china-embassy.org/eng/ssygd/ppflg/condemn/t558201.htm

"(Falun Gong)....caused needless deaths of large numbers of practitioners. Over 1,000 practitioners died because they followed Li's teachings and refused to seek medical treatment for their illnesses. Several hundred practitioners committed self-mutilation or suicide. Over 30 innocent people were killed by mentally deranged practitioners of "Falun Gong". In view of the serious violation of human rights and other criminal activities of "Falun Gong" cult organization, the Chinese Government outlawed this cult..." claims China.

Surprisingly, even the accusations made by the Chinese authorities seem to be too trivial to incur such a brutal and ruthless suppression.

Then why Chinese Communists fear Falun Gong so much?

i personally met a few practitioners of falun gong and tried to understand the reason for chinese persecution. but i couldn't find an answer to your question on why the chinese feared it so much. what i am guessing is that it must be the communist hatred towards religion. the underlying principle is dharma.

falun gong was gaining tremendous popularity and within a short period of 6 years had 70 million followers. thats when the communist bosses kicked in with their tools and torture methods.

Kuttychathan,
Thanks for your support. But in this case and in most similar high profile articles, it is my fellow bloggers, in this case HF who should be credited for raising awareness.
Unfortunately Chindu has ignored this and the Urumqui issues completeley.

Oops...sorry for the mistake... Thank you HF & DD. Perhaps the Communists fear that the influence of Falun Gong may ultimately lead to a massive peaceful resistance movement against their brutal rule, as has happened in Tibet.

After all, both the Tibetan protesters and Falun Gong draw their inspiration from Buddhism.
