The DMK is an organization that has of late become an organization which makes senseless argument after another. The Chindu decides that whenever Mu Ka comes out of his castle decides to cover his statement.
Even if that statement happens to be senseless. Please read this article here,
http://www.hindu.com/2008/04/19/stories/2008041954020400.htm
In his infinite wisdom he says,
There is no rationale given for the fight against the creamy layer exclusion. Instead what the article details is the simple filibustering by the DMK stating their point without any reason or support.
But Mu Ka claims another ploy of his was struck down by the courts,
Of course blame the courts and the forward communities while you are at it. The problem of not questioning stupid statements is alive and well.

In his infinite wisdom he says,
The DMK does not want the concept of the creamy layer to be considered when the ruling on reservation is being implemented. But if “we are offered only a shirt and not a towel, what do we do? We will take the shirt and keep demanding for the towel,”
There is no rationale given for the fight against the creamy layer exclusion. Instead what the article details is the simple filibustering by the DMK stating their point without any reason or support.
But Mu Ka claims another ploy of his was struck down by the courts,
Mr. Karunanidhi explained that the DMK had tried to implement the concept of reservation based on economic criterion when it was in power in the State earlier. If a person was the first graduate in the family, he was given 5 additional marks. As per this government order, 500 people benefited. But some people went to court and the government order was struck down.
Of course blame the courts and the forward communities while you are at it. The problem of not questioning stupid statements is alive and well.

In fact, none of the parties from TN nowadays actually provides much of a rationale for it. The one reason they do provide is that otherwise forward castes will monopolize the benefits and 'justice' will not be meted out to the BCs and conflict will ensue - again, a call for proportional representation in educational institutions. This seems to be a politically powerful argument that has not seriously been refuted by major parties which, while paying lip service to the idea of exclusion of the creamy layer, went along in voting for the AIIMS quota bill despite the lack of such a provision.
I feel the DMK' rhetoric is senseless. If they are given a choice of the shirt or the towel, they should atleast have opted for the towels, thereby ensuring that their modesty is not outraged. Here DMK seems to suggest that their modesty is not an issue as much as getting whatever is thrown at them and fighting for the otherthings that are not thrown at them. Such pitiable conditions one is forced to live in.
pilid,
the problem is that the backward communities who were supposed to be helped by these kind of bills, do not understand that they are in most parts being taken for a ride by these parties. It would be interesting to see how the DMK survives once Mu Ka passes away.
anon,
i agree with you, the real people who need these reservations are not being helped by these idiotic actions of people like Arjun Singh and Mu Ka who will say anything to satisfy their vote banks. Accountability is one word which will never be in their vocabulary.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
You are right dirt digger. The real parties are not being helped. The question is why do the national parties take the message straight to these people and show them how they are being hoodwinked by their local leaders? It is a good way for them to establish themselves as guardians of the public interest as well. But instead of engaging in grass roots activism of that kind, they have chosen to simply capitulate to the demand to include the creamy layer. Why is that? Do they no longer believe in that kind of cadre-based party building preferring to rely on media soundbytes to do the trick? Or do they believe the affluent sections of these communities hold so much sway that they cannot be displaced? Or are they simply taking the easy way out and avoiding controversy?

Not sure if Chindu carried the following news item.
Anyhow, here is a neta that Chindu will be proud of. In case Pranabda falls from favour in the Congress party, Comrade Ram can surely recruit him for the cause of the Chinese.
--------------------------
China called envoy to express appreciation: Pranab
Government on Thursday told Parliament that China had called Indian envoy to Beijing Nirupama Rao to express its 'appreciation' at the 'prompt action' taken against Tibetan protesters who 'forcibly entered' the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi last month.

Calling an ambassador well past midnight to express 'appreciation'!
I think this is one of the most illogical and irrational article from a supposedly "rational" man. I am one of the so called OBC from Usilampatti near Madurai. When I went to college in 94 I did not have to use the reservation.I went to a decent at best art college in Madurai. I studied in a goverment school in Usilampatti through Tamil Medium. My family income was modest at best. But my parents put their hard earned money on their kids education. But their efforts paid off. Now I am in USA and doing fairly well. I do not want to classify my kids as OBC I don't want no reservation for them. They should be treated as a privileged member of the society. That is only fair. I want our society to be caste blind society. But these f*#$%@% politicans won't allow that. I don't need patornage I want to be treated equallly and respectfully. Most of my OBC friends held the same view. I just hope most people will understand that and society will become truly caste blind and nationalistic society.Scrap the reservation but strengthen the Primary education. Give everybody free quality mandatory education till college.
Will continue later
Karthik
One thing I don't agree
pilid,
The problem here is who is going to bell the cat? The reservations issue in its current form is going to be a difficult issue to be challenged by any party trying to face elections given the vote bank politics.
That is the reason why the courts and the media should challenge the issue to provide ground for any party to spread a message of change.
Anon,
Thanks for the update. I'll check Chindu to see if there's an update on it. It is sad to see India become a henchmen to China's activities.
Where is the Social, Secular, Democratic republic which protects minorities rights?
Yup all this will happen if you belong to a particular religion/sect.
It is unfair but true.

"I think this is one of the most illogical and irrational article from a supposedly "rational" man."
There have been several great men who fought for the country's independence who wanted a caste-less society.
What do Arjun Singh, Mu Ka, Mayawati and all the others do? They step on the tombstones of these great men to serve their narrow interests.
Sir,
You raise a great point, when do people from the backward community become truly integrated with society? There are people who need upliftment, the classifications based on caste ensures these parties can get their vote bank politics served.
Another great idea you point out,
Give everybody free quality mandatory education till college.
I wonder if these politicians will listen to any logical idea?
